| On the evening of March 24, at approximately 8:26 p.m., firefighters from South Newton Township Volunteer Fire Company 49 and neighboring Company 50 were dispatched to the 100 block of Michaux Oaks Drive in Cooke Township for a reported brush fire. Upon arrival, crews discovered a working mountain fire. Responding personnel acted quickly to contain and extinguish the flames, working diligently for just over two hours to bring the situation under control. South Newton Township VFC 49 responded with Brush, Utility, and Tanker units, along with the Fire Chief, and a total of 11 dedicated volunteers. Their swift response and coordinated teamwork helped prevent the fire from spreading further in the rugged terrain. There were no injuries reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation. With the arrival of spring and increasing outdoor activity, the department reminds residents to exercise caution when burning yard waste or using fire pits. Always check local burn restrictions and never leave outdoor fires unattended. Fire Safety Tip: Dry conditions can cause brush fires to spread rapidly — never burn during windy weather and always keep a water source nearby.
